Bos Medicare Surgical Stomach Wash Tube is a large tube that is inserted through the mouth or nose into the stomach. The tube is lubricated and passed by depressing the tongue. The tube acts as a siphon, with the part of the tube that goes into the stomach acting as the short arm and the part of the tube that lies outside the body acting as the long arm. The tube is used in a procedure called gastric lavage, which is a gastrointestinal decontamination technique. The procedure involves sequentially administering and removing small volumes of fluid via the tube. The stomach contents are aspirated and the stomach is flushed with water or normal saline. • Aspirate the stomach contents and save them for the laboratory

• Flush the stomach with large amounts of water or normal saline

• Attach a funnel to the tube and fill it with the irrigating fluid

• Expel air from the tube and raise the funnel to allow the fluid to run into the stomach
