Understanding DHPPi + Anti Rabies + KC (Pet Vaccination at Home)

What is the DHPPi + Anti Rabies + KC Vaccine?

The DHPPi + Anti-Rabies + KC Vaccine is a combination vaccination used for the active immunization of dogs against multiple viral and respiratory infections.

The DHPPi vaccine contains weakened strains of canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus type 2, canine parvovirus, and canine parainfluenza virus. The anti-rabies vaccine contains an inactivated rabies virus that helps stimulate immunity without causing the disease. The KC (Kennel Cough) vaccine contains weakened strains of Bordetella bronchiseptica and canine parainfluenza virus to help protect against infectious respiratory conditions commonly associated with kennel cough.

These vaccines stimulate the immune system to produce protective antibodies against these infections without causing the disease. In the future, when your dog is exposed to these viruses, these antibodies mount an immune response, helping reduce the severity of the infection.

Protection from Diseases:

The DHPPi + Anti-Rabies + KC Vaccine offers protection from six distinct diseases:

Distemper: Distemper is a highly contagious viral disease that can affect the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems. Symptoms may include fever, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, reduced appetite, muscle twitching, and paralysis.

Hepatitis: Hepatitis caused by canine adenovirus may affect the liver and lead to symptoms such as fever, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, discharge from the eyes or nose, cloudy eyes, and bleeding disorders.

Parvovirus: Parvovirus is a highly infectious disease that mainly affects the gastrointestinal tract. It may cause vomiting, severe diarrhea, fever, appetite loss, dehydration, and lethargy. The disease can become life-threatening if left untreated.

Parainfluenza: Parainfluenza is a contagious respiratory infection that spreads through the air. It may lead to coughing, fever, runny nose, lethargy, and decreased appetite.

Rabies: Rabies is a serious viral disease that attacks the nervous system and is usually transmitted through the bite or saliva of an infected animal. Once symptoms appear, the disease is almost always fatal. Symptoms may include aggression, excessive drooling, difficulty swallowing, weakness, fever, anxiety, and paralysis.

Kennel Cough: Kennel cough, also known as canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC), is a contagious respiratory infection that spreads through airborne droplets, direct contact, or contaminated surfaces.

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to help protect dogs against these infections and reduce the risk of disease transmission.

Suitable for:

The DHPPi + Anti-Rabies + KC Vaccine is suitable for dogs as recommended by the veterinarian. Vaccination schedules may vary depending on the dog’s age, vaccination history, health condition, and local veterinary guidelines.

Administration

DHPPi Vaccination Schedule:

The DHPPi vaccine is generally recommended from 8–10 weeks of age for early protection. A second or final dose is usually administered 2–4 weeks later when the dog is 12 weeks or older. If vaccination begins after 12 weeks of age, one dose may be given at 12 weeks followed by another dose at 14–16 weeks of age.

Revaccination for protection against parainfluenza is generally recommended every year. For canine distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus, revaccination is usually advised every 3 years or as directed by the veterinarian.

Anti-Rabies Vaccination Schedule:

Primary anti-rabies vaccination is generally recommended at or above 3 months of age. In some cases, earlier vaccination may be advised, followed by a repeat dose as recommended by the veterinarian.

Revaccination is generally recommended every 3 years or according to local veterinary regulations and veterinary advice.

For pets exposed to a suspected rabid animal, post-bite anti-rabies vaccination may be administered under strict veterinary supervision. The schedule generally includes doses on:

  • Day 0
  • Day 3
  • Day 7
  • Day 14
  • Day 28

Routine preventive vaccination remains important for long-term protection.

KC (Kennel Cough) Vaccination Schedule:

Dogs should generally be at least 2 weeks of age to receive the KC vaccine. Unvaccinated dogs are usually given one dose at least 3 weeks before anticipated exposure to high-risk environments such as kennels, daycare centres, grooming visits, training programs, or pet events.

For protection specifically against Bordetella bronchiseptica, one dose may be recommended at least 72 hours before possible exposure. Revaccination is generally recommended annually to maintain protection.
