Understanding Peri-Menopausal Panel Advanced in New Delhi

What is Peri-Menopausal Panel Advanced in New Delhi?

Perimenopause is the time when a woman's body is going through hormonal changes just before menopause (end of the menstrual cycle). The peri-menopausal panel advanced package is tailored to detect the levels of hormones regulating the menstrual cycle in women and also helps to determine the onset of menopause. This package offers a lipid profile, hormone test (estradiol, free thyroid profile, follicle-stimulating hormone, and anti-mullerian hormone), blood sugar test, calcium test, phosphorus test, and serum albumin test. This package can be used by women who have symptoms like irregular periods, vaginal dryness, sleep problems, hot flashes, anxiety, and depression. This package will help you to make lifestyle changes to lead a healthy life and prevent complications associated with perimenopause.

Serum Calcium

A Serum Calcium test measures the levels of calcium in the body. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body; most of it is present in the bones and teeth, and the remaining portion (around 1%) is found in the blood. It is usually present in two forms in blood in about equal amounts: "bound calcium," which is attached to proteins in the blood, and "free calcium or ionized calcium," which is not attached to any protein.

A Serum Calcium test cannot be used to check for lack of calcium in your diet or osteoporosis (loss of calcium from bones) as the body can have normal calcium levels even in dietary calcium deficiency. Moreover, the body can normalize mild calcium deficiency by releasing the calcium stored in bones.

Thyroid Profile Free (FT3, FT4 & TSH)

Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3) are thyroid hormones that help regulate metabolism and energy levels. On the other hand, the pituitary gland produces thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and stimulates the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4 hormones. T3 and T4 circulate in the blood in two forms: bound (attached to proteins) and free (does not attach to any protein). A Thyroid Profile Free (FT3, FT4 & TSH) test measures the free or active form of these hormones.

The serum levels of the thyroid hormones and TSH have an inverse relationship, i.e., low T4 and T3 (as observed in hypothyroidism) and high T4 and T3 (as seen in hyperthyroidism) levels are associated with high and low TSH levels, respectively.

HbA1c (Hemoglobin A1c)

An HbA1c (Hemoglobin A1c) test precisely measures the percentage of sugar-coated or glycated hemoglobin in your blood. The test results represent the proportion of hemoglobin in your blood that has been glycated.

Hemoglobin, a vital protein found in red blood cells, is responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. Hemoglobin A is the most abundant form of hemoglobin, and when blood sugar levels increase, a higher proportion of hemoglobin A becomes glycated. As red blood cells have a lifespan of approximately 120 days, the sugar molecules remain attached to the hemoglobin for the duration of the cell's life. Consequently, the HbA1c test offers insight into your average blood sugar levels over the past 8 to 12 weeks.

AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone)

An AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) test evaluates the amount of AMH available in your body. AMH is produced by the granulosa cells of the ovarian follicles in females and the Sertoli cells of the testes in males. During the early development of a baby boy, AMH levels are high, which inhibits the development of female reproductive organs while promoting the development of male reproductive organs. On the contrary, in a girl child, low levels of AMH are produced, thus allowing the development of female reproductive structures. The AMH level in young girls remains low until puberty but increases significantly, reaching a peak in early adulthood. AMH levels tend to decrease with age and are undetectable in postmenopausal women.

AMH plays a vital role in developing ovarian follicles in women and is considered an important marker of ovarian reserve, which can be essential in assessing fertility. In men, this hormone is involved in the development and functioning of the testes. Measuring AMH levels in the blood provides critical information about reproductive health in both men and women, which can help assess fertility and guide treatment.

E2 (Estradiol)

An E2 (Estradiol) test measures estradiol levels, a hormone produced in men and women. It helps assess early or delayed puberty, menstrual problems, symptoms associated with menopause, or certain cancers like ovarian cancer. This test provides valuable information about ovarian function and aids doctors in evaluating menstrual issues, such as abnormal bleeding or missed periods. The test can also assess the health of the testes, ovaries, or adrenal glands. Most diseases associated with estrogen/estradiol, such as PCOS, infertility, some cancers, etc., can be prevented by lifestyle modifications, menopausal hormone therapy, or other supplements such as calcium, vitamin D, and micronutrients.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone

A Follicle Stimulating Hormone test measures the level of FSH in your body. FSH is produced and subsequently released into the blood by the pituitary gland. Its production is controlled by a feedback mechanism involving gonadotropin-releasing hormone situated in the hypothalamus in the brain. The released FSH travels through your blood and then attaches to receptors in the ovaries and testes and exerts its functional effects on the reproductive organs, such as sexual development, puberty and maturation. FSH levels vary throughout the menstrual cycle in response to estradiol and progesterone. Any disruption or issue in this feedback mechanism can prevent normal function of the testicles or ovaries. Thus determining its level provides crucial information regarding your health.

Phosphorus, Serum

A Phosphorus, Serum test is used to evaluate the level of phosphorus in your blood. Phosphorus is an inherent component of all living cells in the system and most, 85 percent, is located in the tissues of bones and teeth, while the remaining 15 percent is part of the blood and other soft tissues. Your body obtains its daily phosphorus requirements through dietary sources and under normal conditions, once the necessary amounts of phosphorus are absorbed by the cells and tissues, the remaining is eliminated via the urine.

Besides consuming a wholesome diet enriched with sufficient amounts of phosphorus, it is also important to ensure ample intake of calcium and vitamin D, to maintain overall health.

Lipid Profile

A Lipid Profile assesses the level of specific fat molecules called lipids in the blood and helps determine the risk of heart ailments. This test determines the amount of different types of lipids, including total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides. Lipids play a pivotal role in the functioning of the body. They are crucial components of the cell membranes and hormones, provide cushioning, and are a storehouse of energy. Any alterations in the lipid levels may lead to potential heart ailments, making their monitoring crucial.

Serum Albumin

A Serum Albumin test measures the level of albumin protein in your blood. Albumin is one of the major proteins found in your body; about 60% of the total protein is made up of albumin, which is produced by the liver. It helps carry small molecules, such as hormones, vitamins, minerals, and medicines, throughout the body. It also serves as a source of amino acids for tissue metabolism. Albumin helps stop the fluid from leaking out of the blood vessels. When the albumin level is insufficient, the fluid can leak out of your blood vessels and build up in your lungs, belly, or other parts of your body.
