SS-B (La), IgG Antibody
Understanding SS-B (La), IgG Antibody
What is SS-B (La), IgG Antibody?
SS-B (La) IgG Antibody is a blood test to evaluate patients with symptoms and signs of Sjogren's Syndrome and Lupus Erythematous (LE). SS-B (La) is an extractable nuclear antigen (ENA). Antibodies to ENA are found in 60% of the patients with Sjogren Syndrome (an autoimmune inflammatory disorder of salivary and lacrimal gland), 15% of the cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and 5-10% of the patients with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS).
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) method, Semi-Quantitative Multiplex Bead Assay, or Indirect Fluorescent Antibody (IFA) are used to detect the antibodies to diagnose Sjogren Syndrome and SLE. SS-B (La) IgG Antibodies occur together with SS-A (Ro) antibodies in patients with Sjogren Syndrome and SLE. A positive result indicates Sjogren Syndrome and other connective tissue diseases.
