The CECT (Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography) Chest - Lower Half is an imaging technique that helps obtain clear images of the chest and the thorax. A contrast material is injected into the veins, and rotating beams of X-Ray are used to get three-dimensional images on the computer. This procedure helps identify any inflammation or infection of the heart, lungs, food pipe, stomach, and liver. It also helps determine the presence of any tumors or congenital abnormalities.
The contrast material may cause a slight itching at the injected site or a metallic taste in the mouth, which stops after a while. The CECT scan is not painful and lasts for 10-15 minutes only. You may be advised not to eat or drink four hours before the procedure.

Depending on the area to be imaged, you may be asked to wear a hospital gown at the time of the scan.

Pregnant women should inform their doctor (and x-ray technician) as the radiations may affect the fetus. If needed, precautions can be taken to lower the radiation exposure to the fetus.

Get the blood urea and creatinine test done to evaluate kidney function and to ensure safety of contrast before taking up the procedure.
