Posaconazole is used in the treatment of severe fungal infections.

How Posaconazole works

Posaconazole is an antifungal that works by inhibiting the enzyme essential for the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. It disrupts the production of ergosterol, damaging the fungal cell membrane, leading to cell death. This action makes it effective in preventing and treating invasive Aspergillus and Candida infections in immunocompromised patients, as well as treating oropharyngeal candidiasis, including cases resistant to other azoles like itraconazole or fluconazole.
