Phenylalanine is used to treat a skin condition called vitiligo (condition in which some portion of skin start losing the pigment). It is also used for depression, Parkinson's disease, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), alcohol withdrawal symptoms, chronic pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis (pain and swelling of joints).
