Blonanserin is used to treat schizophrenia (a long-term mental disorder often characterized by abnormal social behaviour and failure to recognize what is real) and bipolar disorders (a mental condition marked by alternating periods of elevated mood and depression).
How it works
Blonanserin belongs to class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by altering the effects of certain chemicals present in the brain, thereby relieving the symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.
Common side effects
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, Abnormal behavior, Acne, Bradycardia, Oral ulcer, Diarrhoea, Feeling thirsty, Increased appetite, Insomnia, Feeling of discomfort, Skin redness, Slow movement, Loss of consciousness
- Use blonanserin with extreme caution if you have a history of suicidal tendency as these symptoms may get worsened.
- Do not take blonanserin if you are an elderly patient with dementia-related psychosis (symptoms may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language).
- Do not consume this drug if you are allergic to blonanserin or any of its ingredients.
