Understanding Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1
What is Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1?
Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 (PAI-1 ) test is done to diagnose a condition responsible for excessive and abnormal bleeding. This test helps to keep a check on PAI-1 protein responsible for blood clotting by inhibiting the plasminogen activators. PAI-1 deficiency disorder can result in unexplained mild-to-moderate delayed bleeding; while its excess can lead to venous and arterial thrombosis.
What is Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 used for?
PAI-1 deficiency causes excessive bleeding due to any injury or physical trauma. If left undetected, the PAI-1 level may reduce even further and that can even prove to be fatal in the worst case.
Interpreting Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor-1 results
