We believe health is everything, and so is trust. Unfortunately, the rise in counterfeit medicines makes it harder than ever to know if what you’re purchasing is safe. India is the world’s third-largest pharmaceutical producer, yet a staggering 25% of medicines in the country are counterfeit, substandard or adulterated.
What does ‘fake’ medicine truly mean? There are different terms that are interchangeably used. Let us help you understand the difference between counterfeit, substandard, adulterated and NSQ drugs:
- Counterfeit: These medicines are deliberately made to deceive and infringe on a registered trademark. Counterfeit medicines can contain toxic contaminants, such as gypsum, amphetamine, and commercial grade paints.
- Substandard: These medicines are authorized but don't meet the manufacturer's quality standards. They are also known as "out of specification".
- Adulterated: These medicines are made by partially or fully substituting the original drug with a similar-looking substance. The substitute substance may be inferior in therapeutic and chemical properties.
- NSQ (Not of Standard Quality):These are the drugs that fail to meet quality standards or specifications. The term 'standards of quality' is defined in the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940. NSQ drugs can lead to ineffective treatment, and while not always immediately harmful, they can pose health risks to consumers.
These fake medicines not only compromise the effectiveness of treatments but also contribute to drug resistance and the spread of diseases, putting public health at severe risk. What makes this problem worse? Most of the consumers struggle to differentiate between genuine and fake medicines. This makes it all the more important to have a reliable healthcare partner who ensures quality and safeguards your trust, every single time.

What are cold chain medicines?
Cold chain medicines must be stored at a temperature of 2-8° C to maintain their quality and safety.
How are cold chain medicines managed?
The cold chain for pharmaceuticals requires uninterrupted temperature-control on the journey from their site of manufacture all the way to where they are administered. As a consequence, dedicated solutions are required for the freezing/thawing, packaging, tracking, and storing of these temperature-sensitive products.
