Diabetic ketoacidosis

Description of Diabetic ketoacidosis

Glucose provides energy to your body cells. In diabetes, your body cannot use glucose due to insufficient insulin production. When deprived of glucose, your body breaks down fat to fulfill the energy needs which causes formation of acid compounds called ketones in the blood. As the ketones build-up, your blood becomes very acidic. This condition can lead to a life-threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis.
