Frequently asked questions for Streptomycin
Before starting treatment with Streptomycin, audiometry test and kidney function tests must be done. These tests are required to check the present condition of ears and kidneys as Streptomycin can affect their functioning. Therefore, patients with known kidney disease are treated with Streptomycin only if the benefits outweigh the risks involved. Regular monitoring of kidney function is also recommended throughout the treatment with Streptomycin. Let your doctor know about all the other medicines you are taking because they may affect, or be affected by, this medicine.
Streptomycin should be administered into a muscle (intramuscularly) under the supervision of a trained healthcare professional or a doctor only and should not be self-administered.
