Procarbazine Uses
Procarbazine is used in the treatment of sickle cell anemia, prostate cancer, blood cancer (acute lymphocytic leukemia), soft tissue sarcoma and Hodgkin’s disease.
How Procarbazine works
Procarbazine belongs to a group of medicines called antineoplastic alkylating agents. It works by inhibiting protein, RNA, and DNA synthesis, which helps to stop the growth of cancer cells in the body.
Common side effects of Procarbazine
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

  • Take it with or without food, but try to have it at the same time every day.
  • As a precaution, foods high in tyramine (eg. aged cheeses, air-dried meats, soy sauce, tap/draft beers and red wines) should be avoided when taking Procarbazine to avoid a serious reaction.
  • Your doctor may get regular blood tests done to monitor your blood cell count and liver function.
  • It makes you feel dizzy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
