Cyproterone+Ethinyl Estradiol+Folic Acid is used in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It treats the symptoms of PCOS such as excessive hair growth (hirsutism), acne and irregular periods.
How Cyproterone + Ethinyl Estradiol + Folic Acid works
Cyproterone + Ethinyl Estradiol + Folic Acid is a combination of two hormonal medicines: Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol, and Folic Acid which treat PCOS symptoms such as acne, excessive hair growth (hirsutism) and irregular menstrual cycle (periods). Cyproterone works by blocking the overproduction of androgens (male hormones) in the ovaries thereby reducing unwanted hair growth and acne. Ethinyl Estradiol enhances the effect of Cyproterone by reducing the amount of androgens in the blood circulation. Folic Acid is a form of vitamin B. It plays a vital role in the formation of red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body. It is also used to treat or prevent low folate levels due to poor diet. Together, they also regularize the menstrual cycle in PCOS.

  • Your doctor has prescribed Cyproterone + Ethinyl Estradiol + Folic Acid to treat symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) such as excessive hair growth (hirsutism), acne and irregular menstrual cycle (periods).
  • Take your pill at the same time every day to help you remember to take it.
  • You may experience vaginal spotting (blood stain) or breakthrough bleeding while taking Cyproterone + Ethinyl Estradiol + Folic Acid. This is temporary, inform your doctor if it lasts longer.
  • If your period fails to come within a week after completing your course, don’t start the next course, before consulting your doctor.
  • Do not use Cyproterone + Ethinyl Estradiol + Folic Acid if you are obese, over 50, smoke, on prolonged bed rest, or have a history of blood clots.
  • Stop taking it and inform your doctor if you notice unexplained swelling and pain in your limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, or changes in vision.

If you miss a dose, you should take it as soon as possible. If the dose was missed by more than 12 hours, you should not take the missed dose and simply continue the usual dosing schedule. However, to prevent pregnancy another non-hormonal birth control (like condoms) method should be used during this cycle. Frequent missing of dose, may also cause unexpected vaginal bleeding or spotting (blood stain). If it lasts long, consult your doctor.
If vomiting occurs within 3-4 hours of taking the tablet, you must repeat the dose.

Usually, you will be able to notice improvements in 3-4 weeks. However, it is important to finish the full course of treatment to see its full benefit. Inform your doctor if your acne did not get cured even after finishing the full course of treatment.
