Patala

Patala
Patala, commonly known as trumpet, is an Ayurvedic herb used in the preparation of ayurvedic formulation known as Dashmula. Generally, the decoction of the root is used to treat inflammation, pain, fever, asthma, and vomiting[1].

According to Ayurveda, Patala helps manage the symptoms of arthritis due to its Vata balancing properties. It also helps with liver problems by improving the digestive system. This is due to its Deepan (appetizer) and Pachan (digestive) properties. Patala also helps balance Kapha and remove excess mucus from the lungs, thereby providing relief from the symptoms of asthma. It may also help manage diabetes-related symptoms due to its Kashaya (astringent) and Tikta (bitter) nature. These symptoms may include frequent urination, excessive thirst, fatigue, and overeating. In addition to that, Patala Hridya (cardiac tonic) property improves the strength of cardiac muscles that helps to keep healthy heart function.

Patala is available in powder form. You can take 2-3 gm Patala powder or as directed by the doctor to get rid of the symptoms of arthritis. Mix the powder with lukewarm water and have it once or twice a day. You can also use Palata powder externally for joint pain by making a paste out of it. Mix the powder with coconut oil or water and apply the paste to the affected area once or twice a day. Applying Patala paste helps to reduce joint pain due to its Vata-balancing property.
