A recent study by researchers at UC Davis looked into how eating mangoes can help women going through menopause.

The study included 24 women aged 50 to 70 who were overweight but didn’t have any heart diseases. For two weeks, they ate 330 grams of mango daily without changing their diet or exercise routine.

After just 14 days, the women had a 6 mmHg drop in blood pressure, especially when lying down. This suggests that mangoes may help support heart health.

Mango intake led to a reduction in LDL ("bad") cholesterol by approximately 9 mg/dL. It also helped manage blood glucose and insulin levels versus equivalent-calorie white bread consumption.

Mangoes are rich in vitamin A, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, potassium, magnesium, and fiber, which contribute to heart and metabolic health.

The research was brief (only 14 days) and involved a large daily mango intake. The authors noted that further studies are needed using typical serving sizes.

This study received funding from the National Mango Board (Orlando), aiming to highlight mango’s potential benefits for postmenopausal women.

Although the study focused on postmenopausal women, mangoes have health benefits for men too, especially thanks to their potassium, magnesium, and fiber content.
