A migraine can hit fast and hard, but a few smart moves right away can shorten the attack and ease the pain—let’s walk through them.

Light and noise intensify migraine pain, so move to a dim room, draw the curtains, silence notifications, and let your senses rest while the episode peaks.

Dehydration is a common trigger, so drink a tall glass of water. A small dose of caffeine, such as half a cup of coffee or tea, can help boost the effectiveness of pain-relief medications and constrict dilated blood vessels.

Place a cold pack on your forehead or the nape of your neck to numb throbbing nerves, or switch to a warm compress if tight neck muscles are part of your pain pattern.

Slow, diaphragmatic breaths and light neck or shoulder stretches release tension, calm your nervous system, and may help the medication kick in faster.

Seek medical advice if your migraines: – Occur more than 3–4 times a month – Change in pattern, intensity, or location – Include confusion, vision loss, or speech trouble
