Galop 20 Tablet is widely prescribed to treat depression and other mental health conditions like anxiety, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is a type of antidepressant known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).

Galop 20 Tablet helps many people to recover from depression by improving their mood and relieving anxiety and tension. It can be taken with or without food. The dose and how often you need it will be decided by your doctor so that you get the right amount to control your symptoms. Your doctor may start you on a lower dose and increase it gradually. Do not change the dose or stop taking it without talking to your doctor, even if you feel well. Doing so may make your condition worse or you may suffer from unpleasant withdrawal symptoms (anxiety, restlessness, palpitations, dizziness, sleep disturbances, etc).

To get the most benefit, take this medicine regularly at the same time each day. Your doctor may advise you to take it in the morning if you have trouble sleeping. It may take a few weeks before you start feeling better. Let your doctor know if you do not see any improvement even after 4 weeks.

Some common side effects of this medicine include nausea, fatigue, increased sweating, insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), decreased sexual drive, delayed ejaculation, and women may experience difficulties achieving orgasm. Some people may experience sleepiness after taking this medicine. Let your doctor know straight away if you develop any sudden worsening of mood or any thoughts about harming yourself.

Before taking Galop 20 Tablet, you should tell your doctor if you have epilepsy (seizure disorder or fits), diabetes, liver or kidney disease, any heart problems, or are currently taking medicines for depression known as MAO inhibitors. These may affect your treatment. Please tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking to make sure you are safe.

Based on your clinical history, your doctor plans the type of medicine and it's dose and duration. For first episode of anxiety/ depression/ panic, the usual maintenance phase is 6 months of asymptomatic period, after which medicines can be gradually tapered. But treatment may need to continue longer depending on severity and frequency of episodes. Treatment for Recurrent Depressive Disorder , psychotic disorders, Bipolar Affective Disorder and OCD usually lasts for much longer.To monitor any potential side effects and to take any decision to change medication or stop them, several factors have to be taken in account for which regular follow up with your psychiatrist is important. For second opinion, seek a proper consultation with another psychiatrist and take along your previous prescriptions. Usually, it will take about 2-4 weeks before you start feeling better, however, full benefits may take a little longer. Therefore, do not stop taking Galop 20 Tablet without consulting your doctor. Talk to your doctor if taking the medicine does not make you feel better or you feel worse even after taking the medicine.

Q. What are the most common side effects of Galop 20 Tablet?

The most common side effects of Galop 20 Tablet are headache and nausea. Other common side effects include blocked or runny nose, decreased or increased appetite, anxiety, restlessness and abnormal dreams. You may also experience sleepiness or difficulty falling asleep, dizziness, yawning, tremors, diarrhea or constipation. Other side effects of Galop 20 Tablet may be vomiting, dry mouth, increased sweating, fatigue, fever, increase in weight and pain in muscles and joints. Using this medicine may even cause delayed ejaculation, problems with erection, decreased sexual drive and women may experience difficulty in achieving orgasm.

If you accidentally take more than the recommended dose of Galop 20 Tablet, seek immediate medical attention in a nearby hospital or call your doctor immediately. The symptoms of overdose dizziness, tremor, agitation, convulsion, coma, nausea, and vomiting. You may also experience change in heart rhythm, decreased blood pressure and change in body fluid/salt balance.
