Introduction
Canesten V6 Tablet VT is an antifungal medication. It is used in the treatment of fungal infection of vagina such as burning, itching, and discharge. It kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane.
Canesten V6 Tablet VT is for external use only. You should use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It is best to use it at night time for better results. The affected area should be clean before using the medicine. You must wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying this medicine. Do not stop using it until you have finished the complete course, even when you feel better. You must consult with your doctor if you do not observe any improvement within 3 days of treatment.
Some of the common side effects include vaginal burning sensation and irritation. If the side effects bother you or do not go away, let your doctor know.

Q. What is thrush? How does Canesten V6 Tablet VT help?
Thrush is a very common infection which is caused by overgrowth of a yeast called Candida albicans. It causes itching and burning around the entrance of vagina. In case of thrush, one may experience thick, heavier than usual discharge, appearing like cottage cheese. Canesten V6 Tablet VT is an antifungal cream. It is used to kill the fungus or prevent the growth of fungus at the site of infection.
Q. How should Canesten V6 Tablet VT be applied?
You should wash your hands properly before using Canesten V6 Tablet VT. Canesten V6 Tablet VT comes along with an applicator. Fill the applicator with the cream and insert it into the vagina. Release the medicine into the vagina and remove the applicator. Use it every day before going to bed for 7 days. Wash the applicator after each use.
Q. What precautions are necessary while using Canesten V6 Tablet VT?
Canesten V6 Tablet VT should not be used during menstruation as the cream will get washed off with blood flow. Track the menstrual cycle and make sure that the treatment is completed before the onset of menstruation. Do not use tampons, vaginal douches (washing the vagina with water or other fluids), spermicide (a contraceptive substance that destroys sperm) or other vaginal products while using Canesten V6 Tablet VT.
Q. Will the use of Canesten V6 Tablet VT affect my sex life?
Canesten V6 Tablet VT has no effect on the sex drive or desire. However, it is advised to avoid vaginal intercourse as long as you are using Canesten V6 Tablet VT. This is because Canesten V6 Tablet VT will not be able to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. Also, the medicine may damage the condoms and diaphragms and hence you may need other forms of contraception.
Q. What should I do if the infection comes back?
Canesten V6 Tablet VT can be used again if the candidal infection returns after 7 days. However, if the candidal infection recurs more than twice within six months, you should consult your doctor whether it is candidal infection or something else.
Q. I had been taking tacrolimus and now I have been prescribed Canesten V6 Tablet VT vaginal cream. Can I use them together?
Yes, you can use Canesten V6 Tablet VT and tacrolimus together. However, you may have to keep a watch on the side effects of tacrolimus. Though it happens rarely, the risk of side effects may increase due to increase in levels of tacrolimus because of Canesten V6 Tablet VT. But if it happens, talk to your doctor who will modify the dose of tacrolimus.
