Frequently asked questions about Tofatas Products
Frequently asked questions about Tofacitinib
Q. What is Tofatas Ointment used for?
Tofatas Ointment is used on the skin to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (AD), also called eczema, by calming the body’s immune signals that cause red, itchy, inflamed skin.
Q. Who should not use Tofatas Ointment?
Individuals should not use Tofatas Ointment if they are allergic to tofacitinib or any ingredient, have active tuberculosis (TB), or any serious infection (like sepsis, or deep fungal/viral infections), have severe liver problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Q. Can viruses reactivate while using Tofatas Ointment?
Yes, shingles (herpes zoster) can flare while using Tofatas Ointment. Your doctor may pause treatment until it clears. Tell your doctor if you have had shingles or recurrent cold sores.
Q. Are there blood count checks needed while using Tofatas Ointment?
Very low white cells (lymphopenia, neutropenia) or low hemoglobin (anemia) increase infection risk. Although the likelihood is low, doctors may check blood counts at the start, and every three months during Tofatas Ointment use, and may pause, or stop treatment if counts drop below safe levels.
Q. Can Tofatas Ointment increase cancer risk?
Tofatas Ointment contains tofacitinib, which is a JAK inhibitor. Cancers (including lymphoma and certain skin cancers) have been seen with oral JAK inhibitors, but there is no clear evidence with the topical route of Tofatas Ointment. Your doctor will weigh benefits and risks, especially if you smoke now, or in the past, or have had cancer before; report any new or changing skin lesions.
