What is Rubella DNA PCR - Qualitative?
The Rubella DNA PCR - Qualitative test is performed to detect the trace of the virus that causes the disease called Rubella, commonly known as German measles. The Rubella viruses capture the host's DNA. Thus, the patient's DNA has to be tested in this case. The samples that can be taken are blood, throat swabs, saliva and CSF.
Why is Rubella DNA PCR - Qualitative done?
Even though very mild, German measles do have some symptoms like –
>Swollen lymph nodes
Anyone who is experiencing these symptoms should immediately contact the doctor. This is especially true for pregnant women as the fetus may develop congenital Rubella syndrome, which may result in the baby being born with serious birth defects.
Interpreting Rubella DNA PCR - Qualitative results
If it is found that the patient's DNA has Rubella virus DNA, then the patient is Rubella positive.
