The X - Ray Pelvis AP & LAT Views is an easy way to visualise the hip bones, the upper part of the femur (thigh bone), hip joint, skin and muscles around the pelvis. AP (anteroposterior) means that the X rays pass from front to back with your legs straight. Lateral means the side view of the pelvis with your legs bent. This image is achieved in a process that produces less radiation.

An X-ray AP and Lateral view help identify fractures, joint dislocations, inflammations, bone lesions (abnormal changes), or other deteriorating diseases of the pelvis and related structures. The radiologist (a specialised imaging doctor) will communicate the findings to your doctor, and suitable treatment can begin. It is a relatively safe procedure with minimal radiation exposure.

What are the drawbacks of a bone X-ray?

X-ray images give a very clear view of the bones. However, it does not provide a good visual image of the soft tissues like tendons, muscles or fat tissue under the skin. Even the bone microfractures or complicated spine injuries are not clearly visible on the X Ray images. Apart from this, it also exposes the patient to some amount of radiations but the benefit of the information gained from an X-ray image outweighs the risk of radiations.
