Varicella Zoster IgG Test
What is VZV IgG?
The Varicella zoster virus causes Chickenpox and hence, the test is used to evaluate the level of antibodies IgG produced by immune system to fight against the virus. As a result of reactivation of latent infection Herpes zoster is also caused. Nonimmune individuals can be identified by serologic screening for IgG antibodies to Varicella Zoster Virus.
Why is VZV IgG done?
The test is recommended to check for Chickenpox infection or Herpes Zoster in an individual when he/she shows symptoms like itchy fluid filled tiny blisters coupled with cough and fever. In case the virus reactivates due to weak immune system, it can cause shingles which is responsible for itching or painful sensations in any part of the body.
Interpreting VZV IgG results
The outcome of the test result is as follows: Positive result: >= 1.1 AI
Negative result: <= 0.8 AI
Equivocal: 0.9 to 1 AI
