The TB-HIV Immune Check Panel is a comprehensive health screening panel designed to evaluate tuberculosis (TB) infection, HIV status, immune function, and inflammation. This package combines key tests that provide a broader understanding of TB-related immune response and factors that may influence an individual’s risk of developing active TB.

Understanding TB-HIV Immune Check Panel

The package includes QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Plus (Interferon-Gamma Release Assay [IGRA]), a blood test that detects an immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes TB. It also includes the HIV Combo (Antigen and Antibody) Test, which screens for HIV infection. HIV can weaken the immune system and substantially increase the risk of progression from TB infection to active TB disease. The CD4/ CD8 Enumeration Panel measures CD4 and CD8 T-lymphocytes, providing important information about cellular immune status. This is particularly relevant in individuals with HIV or other conditions associated with impaired immunity, as significant immunosuppression may also affect the interpretation of TB immune-response tests. The C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Quantitative test measures a marker that can rise in response to inflammation and provides additional information about ongoing inflammatory activity. Together, these tests provide a comprehensive assessment of TB infection, HIV status, cellular immunity, and systemic inflammation, making the package particularly useful for individuals undergoing evaluation for TB or those with factors that may affect immune function. It is important to note that a positive QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus result indicates evidence of TB infection but does not, by itself, distinguish between latent TB infection and active TB disease. Similarly, a negative IGRA result does not completely rule out TB, particularly in individuals with significant immunosuppression. If active TB is suspected, diagnosis should not rely on IGRA alone; other tests like sputum examination or molecular tests may be undertaken along with appropriate clinical and radiological assessment. Getting tested with the TB-HIV Immune Check Panel can support timely evaluation, informed clinical decision-making, and appropriate medical care.

What does TB-HIV Immune Check Panel measure?

Contains 11 tests

The CRP test measures the level of CRP protein in your blood. CRP is made by the liver when you have inflammation. Levels rise quickly if you have an infection, injury, or chronic autoimmune disease. This test indicates the amount of inflammation present in the body, but it does not identify the exact cause or location. CRP testing is also useful for monitoring response to treatment. A more sensitive version of this test, called high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP), can detect very low CRP levels and is commonly used to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease.

An HIV Combo (Antigen And Antibody) Test simultaneously detects HIV p24 antigen and antibodies associated with HIV 1 & 2. The HIV p24 antigen is the most abundant HIV protein. Its detection is used clinically to diagnose an HIV infection early on since HIV-specific antibodies are not detectable in a very recently acquired infection.

HIV-1 was discovered first and is the most widespread. HIV-2 is more than 55% genetically different from HIV-1. The transmission rate of HIV-2 is also slower than HIV-1.

The Quantiferon®-TB Gold Plus (Interferon Gamma Release Assay) test measures the immune system’s response to the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB). It measures two important types of immune cells T cells—CD4 and CD8 in response to tuberculosis (TB) bacteria. Both these cells play key roles in fighting infections. When a person’s immune system encounters TB bacteria, CD4 T-cells help coordinate and regulate other immune cells, while CD8 T-cells can directly kill infected cells. The test is tailored to activate both CD4 and CD8 T-cells. If these cells recognize the TB proteins, they release a signal called interferon-gamma (IFN-γ); hence the name IGRA (Interferon gamma release assay). By measuring this signal or stimulation from both CD4 and CD8 cells, the test gives a more complete picture of the body’s immune response to TB. This helps doctors better detect both active and latent TB infections, improving the accuracy and reliability of the test.

The CD4/ CD8 Enumeration Panel test is a blood test that measures the number of CD4+ T-cells and CD8+ T-cells. It then calculates the ratio by dividing the CD4 count by the CD8 count. This ratio gives a snapshot of the immune system's balance and function.
