ROS-1 by FISH is a test used to detect genetic changes (mutations) in the ROS-1 (Repressor of Silencing 1) gene which is responsible for cell growth and development. The ROS1 gene located on chromosome 6 has the potential to undergo fusion or rearrangement, leading to the development of uncontrolled cell growth and the onset of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the most common form of lung cancer.
