Understanding LYME (Borrelia Burgdorferi) Antibody, IgG
What is LYME (Borrelia Burgdorferi) Antibody, IgG?
An LYME (Borrelia Burgdorferi) antibody IgG test help assess the exposure to Borrelia Burgdorferi, a bacteria which causes Lyme disease. This disease is transmitted to humans through ticks infected with Borrelia Burgdorferi bacteria. Lyme disease symptoms include fever, fatigue, joint pain and a characteristic skin rash called Erythema migrans. The first symptoms of Lyme disease usually show up between 3 and 30 days after the tick bite. This test helps detect IgG antibodies against Lyme disease. These antibodies start rising 4-6 weeks after infection and persist while symptoms are present and drop slowly during recovery. Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated successfully with a few weeks of antibiotics.
