Ganglioside - IgG antibody

Ganglioside IgG antibodies are autoantibodies that target gangliosides, which are complex molecules found in the cell membrane of neurons. Ganglioside - IgG antibody test detects IgG antibodies against 7 gangliosides, namely GM1, GM2, GM3, GD1a, GD1b, GT1b, and GQ1b. The antibodies can help diagnose multifocal neuropathy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Miller-Fisher syndrome & sensory neuropathy. The test is done for patients who are likely to suffer from autoimmune central nervous system disorders. The Ganglioside - IgG antibody test is a medical test that is done for a variety of reasons, including diagnosis of autoimmune neuropathies such as Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), and multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN), which are associated with the presence of specific ganglioside antibodies; differentiation of neuropathy subtypes such as motor neuropathy or sensory neuropathy; monitoring treatment progress for autoimmune neuropathies. In some cases, the test may be used to evaluate other neurological conditions, such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease, although it is not a primary diagnostic tool for these conditions.

The Ganglioside - IgG antibody test may be ordered when a person has symptoms suggestive of a possible neurological condition, such as numbness, tingling, or burning sensations in the arms, legs, hands, or feet; muscle weakness or loss of muscle tone; difficulty walking or maintaining balance; reduced reflexes; autonomic dysfunction, such as changes in blood pressure, heart rate, sweating, or bowel and bladder control, and pain in the affected areas.
