The Galactomannan (Aspergillus Antigen), Serum test is used for the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis caused by fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. This test is based on the detection of galactomannan, a protein secreted by all pathogenic Aspergillus species. Lungs are the primary affected organs by the infection and its symptoms include fever, chest pain, coughing up blood and shortness of breath.
Most common targets of this infection are immunocompromised patients, people undergoing a cancer treatment and prolonged neutropenia patients.
