Understanding G6PD Quantitative Reflex Qualitative in Faridabad
What is G6PD Quantitative Reflex Qualitative in Faridabad?
G6PD Quantitative Reflex Qualitative test is done to determine the levels of an enzyme, the Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) in RBCs. G6PD helps in energy production inside the cell and protects red blood cells (RBCs) from oxidative stress occurring in response to certain medications, infections, or other triggers. The deficiency of this enzyme may lead to hemolytic anemia. This test detects the deficiency of G6PD and also helps to monitor the treatment response for the same. Your doctor may advise this test if you have symptoms suggestive of hemolytic anemia such as an enlarged spleen, weakness, dizziness, jaundice, pale skin, increased heart rate, dark-colored urine, and breathlessness.
Note: Qualitative test is done if the quantitative value is below 6 Units/gm of HB (hemoglobin).
