C1 Esterase Inhibitor

C1 Esterase Inhibitor measures the levels of C1 esterase inhibitor in the body. C1 is a component of the complement system, which helps the immune system recognize foreign substances and prevent infections. Your doctor may advise a C1 Esterase Inhibitor if you have symptoms or a family history of Hereditary Angioedema (HAE). The symptoms of HAE include swelling or edema in various parts of the body, including feet, hands, face, airway, or gastrointestinal walls, abdominal pain, nausea, unexplained vomiting etc.

C1 Esterase Inhibitor test abnormal results may indicate a deficiency of C1 Esterase Inhibitor which is seen in HAE. This helps your doctor determine if any changes are required in the treatment.
