Haptoglobin in Allahabad

Haptoglobin test determines the levels of haptoglobin proteins in the blood. Haptoglobin protein is made in the liver and helps in removal of free hemoglobin from the bloodstream. Haptoglobin test results are normal, if in the range of 40-200mg/dL. If the levels are low in the blood it may indicate liver disease, inflammation, anemia, kidney disorder or other blood related disorders. Higher levels are indicative of heart attack, active infection in the body, colon ulcers or rheumatic diseases.

The test is conducted when a patient shows signs of hemolytic anemia or any red blood cells disorder or has gone through blood transfusion. The test is required; if the person shows symptoms like weakness, tiredness, breathlessness, pale and dull skin, dark-colored urine, high heart rate and jaundice.
