Anti NMDA Receptor Encephalitis IgG
Understanding Anti NMDA Receptor Encephalitis IgG
What is Anti NMDA Receptor Encephalitis IgG?
Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA) encephalitis is a neuro-autoimmune disease. This disease arises from an autoimmune reaction to the NMDA receptor that causes brain inflammation. An Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis IgG test is used to confirm the diagnosis of Anti-NMDA encephalitis. Early flu-like symptoms of NMDA encephalitis include fever, headache, and fatigue, which are followed by psychiatric disturbances, seizures, memory loss, confusion, delusions, and agitation.
Cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) or blood serum are studied as part of the Anti-NMDA test. Treatment of NMDA encephalitis consists of corticosteroids followed by immunotherapy. Psychiatric disturbances are treated by psychotic medications. Medications that control blood pressure, ease anxiety, improve sleep, and treat delusions are also prescribed.
