What is Covid Vaccination?
COVID-19 vaccine is a type of vaccine which protects us from the ill effects of SARS-CoV-2 virus. It helps our bodies to develop immunity against virus that is responsible for causing COVID-19. The vaccine ensures that not only you, but the people around you are also protected. Hence, if you have already tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies, you should still vaccinate yourself.
There are various types of vaccines available for COVID-19. All these vaccines work in different ways to offer protection, however, with all types of vaccines, the body produces “memory” T-lymphocytes as well as B-lymphocytes that will remember how to fight against that virus in the future.
The two authorized vaccines in India i.e. Covishield & Covaxin are both safe & effective, hence whichever vaccine is made available to you, you should take it.
Note- You will not be given an option to choose the type of vaccine on site
Age eligibility for the vaccination-
a. 45 Years and olders as of 1.1.2021.
Documents required for the vaccination
a. People over the age of 45 must bring valid government issued ID proof ( Adhaar card/voter ID card/passport/photo ID card).
Important - List of 20 specified comorbidities is given here: www.dshm.delhi.gov.in , www.health.delhigovt.nic.in
Appointment for the second dose of the vaccine will automatically be booked on the same site for the 28th day from the first dose. This appointment can later be rescheduled for upto 42nd day from first dose.
Note- It usually takes a few weeks for the body to produce these cells (T-lymphocytes and B-lymphocytes) after vaccination. Thus, it is quite possible that a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 just prior to or after vaccination and then gets sick because the vaccine did not have enough time to show its full effect.
After vaccination, it is possible to experience symptoms such as fever and pain at the injection site.. These are absolutely normal and are a sign that the body is building immunity against SARS-CoV-2 virus.
