Desmoglein III Antibody Vesiculobullous Disorders

The Desmoglein III (DSG III) antibody test is performed to screen and diagnose Pemphigus. Pemphigus is an autoimmune disease where antibodies are produced against desmoglein, which forms a type of glue that joins the epidermal cells or skin cells together. Antibodies are targeted against self and destroy desmoglein.

This test is prescribed by the doctor to diagnose the causes of blisters, lesions on the skin surface. It is also helpful in assessing painful blisters that start near the mouth.

Pemphigus is not contagious and cannot be transmitted from one person to another. However, the genetic constitution can put them at a higher risk for the condition. If your parents or family members had or have this condition, you are more likely to develop it.

Treatment is aimed at reducing pain, alleviating symptoms, and preventing complications like infection.
