What is Cytomegalovirus, DNA PCR - Quantitative?
Cytomegalovirus DNA PCR - quantitative is a common diagnostic test for patients affected by the cytomegalovirus. Cytomegalovirus is a major cause of infection in organ transplant recipients. It can cause serious infections that can even lead to death. Some of the common symptoms are hepatitis, leukopenia, fever, etc. Antiviral medication is the most common form of treatment for this condition. The virus DNA is extracted from your plasma and is then amplified and detected using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The DNA is usually undetectable in the plasma of healthy people (even if they were exposed to the virus) during analysis. Still, affected people typically show an increase in viral load over time. The procedure is considered relatively safe. This test is the most specific and sensitive detection method.
