Overview of Apo - A1

What is Apo - A1?

Apolipoprtein A1 (ApoA1) is the protein that is linked to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL Cholesterol) which plays the pivotal role in reverse cholesterol transport. An increased ApoA1 level indicates the reduced risk of a cardiovascular disease.

Why is Apo - A1 done?

The test is required to assess the ApoA1 level in the blood if low HDL- Cholesterol is detected and thereby determines the risk of a myocardial infarction. The test is recommended if the individual has high triglycerides and cholesterol levels or has a family history of cardiovascular diseases. The test is also used for monitoring the lipid treatment effectiveness.

  • Do not eat or drink anything other than water for 8-12 hours before the test.
