Brucella, DNA PCR - Qualitative
Overview
What is Brucella, DNA PCR - Qualitative?
The Brucella, DNA PCR – Qualitative is a confirmatory test for brucellosis, a bacterial infection caused by various Brucella species. Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease that spreads from animals to humans through direct contact with infected animals or inhalation of microbial aerosols. The symptoms of Brucellosis often resemble flu infection, including fever, weakness, and weight loss. However, in some cases, it does not show symptoms and leads to serious complications.
Patients present with the classic triad of fever with profuse night sweats, arthralgia/arthritis and hepatosplenomegaly are present in most patients. It uses qualitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify and measure the amount of Brucella DNA loads in the blood of the brucellosis-affected individuals. An abnormal result may indicate the presence of bacterial infections caused by Brucella species.
