Anti HDV Antibody IgM
Overview
What is Anti HDV Antibody IgM?
Hepatitis D virus (also known as delta virus) occurs only in people who have already been infected with Hepatitis B. Anti HDV antibody test is to examine the presence of HDV antigen and anti HDV antibodies (IgM, total antibodies) present in the blood.
The symptoms of HDV include jaundice, dark-colored urine, stomach upset, pain and fatigue. Once the symptoms are prevalent, IgM appears in the blood in 2 to 3 weeks and can persist up to 9 months.
During the test, a blood sample is taken from a vein in your arm. A positive result indicates the presence of HDV, and a negative indicates its absence. Immunocompromised individuals and people whose results are borderline normal, are advised to take the test again.
Why is Anti HDV Antibody IgM done?
A person is likely to suffer from Hepatitis D if he/she observes these symptoms and should get tested immediately:
• Dark Urine
• Yellowing of skin and eyeballs
• Vomiting
• Upper Abdominal Pain
• Fatigue
