What is CECT SI Joints?
Contrast Enhanced Computerized Tomography(CECT) Scan of the SI joints (sacro-iliac joints) is a diagnostic procedure in which a contrast material is injected and the rotating beams of X-rays are used to create cross sectional images of the SI joint. This joint is formed between the triangular bone at the lower end of the spine and the right and left iliac bones of the pelvis, which can then be used to create a three dimensional image to detect and diagnose disorders of this joint.
Why is CECT SI Joints done?
- • To determine functioning and proper movement of the sacroiliac joints • To detect any fractures in the sacrum and iliac bones • To diagnose the cause of persisting lower back pain • To detect inflammation or infection of the joint and bones • To detect tumors or other masses in the sacroiliac region • To guide diagnostic procedures like biopsy or therapeutic procedures like placement of implants
