Overview

What is TGB?

A thyroglobulin test is conducted to measure the concentration of antithyroglobulin antibodies in the blood stream. Thyroglobulin is a protein that is found in the thyroid cells of the body. A high concentration of antithyroglobulin antibodies indicates that the person is suffering from autoimmune disorders like thyroiditis or Graves disease.

Why is TGB done?

It is usually conducted if you have symptoms suggestive of hypothyroidism like weight gain, menstrual irregularities, cold intolerance etc. Or if you have symptoms suggestive of hyperthyroidism like weight loss, heat intolerance etc.

Interpreting TGB results

Interpretations

The test results show the concentration of antithyrogobulin antibodies. A high concentration means that you are at higher risk of developing autoimmune diseases like Graves disease or Hashimotos Thyroiditis.
