Overview
What is MR Parotid Gland?
An MRI parotid gland creates a picture of your largest salivary gland located on either side of your mouth in fornt of both the ears and surrounding soft tissues. The images captured during the MRI scan can be stored on an electronic device which is further printed on a film. The MRI scan is radiationless test which uses strong magnetic and radio waves to create detailed and clear 3D multiple images. The whole MRI scan procedure takes about 40-60 minutes.
Why is MR Parotid Gland done?
- To diagnose inflammation of the parotid gland (parotitis), mumps, salivary stones
- To detect blockage of salivary duct by calculi or compression
- To find out any lesion, tumor/cyst (extra growth of salivary glands)
- To determine bulimia nervosa (eating disorder) due to swelling, blockage or inflammation in your parotid gland.

I am happy with 1mg, but not with National Imaging where I went for xray
