Understanding Cystic Fibrosis, Gene sequencing
What is Cystic Fibrosis, Gene sequencing?
Cystic Fibrosis, a Gene sequencing test detects approximately 1900 disease-causing mutations that have been identified in the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) gene. This test is the common lgE blood test in which a small amount of blood sample is required for checking whether the patient is facing any duplication or mutations in a gene.
This disease primarily affects the lungs but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine. Long-term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus as a result of frequent lung infections. This test is prescribed by the doctor in case of symptoms like salty-tasting skin, poor growth, accumulation of thick, sticky mucus, and frequent chest infections.
Most people with cystic fibrosis need to take pancreatic enzyme medication with meals along with a daily multivitamin to avoid nutritional deficiencies, maintain a healthy weight, and support immune health.
