Overview
What is Aldolase?
Aldolase is a blood test conducted to identify and monitor certain conditions that may cause damage to your muscles or organs. Aldolase is an enzyme (protein). Its main function is to help convert glucose (a type of sugar) into energy. Aldolase testing is ordered to diagnose any muscle or liver damage or identify certain muscle diseases or disorders.
Before the blood test, you will need to avoid any food or drink for 6 to 12 hours, avoid strenuous activities and avoid taking certain medications as informed by your doctor. The normal levels of aldolase are 0.8 to 3.0 IU/mL. Elevated aldolase levels indicate damage to muscles or organs.
