Test Description

The Herpes Simplex Virus 1 DNA PCR test is performed to detect the presence of the Herpes Simplex Virus 1, which is a virus that causes the sexually transmitted disease, oral herpes. The test is done by collecting a sample of cerebrospinal fluid, whole blood, swab, plasma, serum or vitreous fluid.

Why Get Tested

The patient may also present symptoms like fever, fatigue, headaches, loss of appetite and swollen lymph nodes. If HSV spreads to the eyes, it can also cause eye pain, discharge and gritty sensation in the eyes.
