What is Bone Marrow Iron Stain?
Examination of Bone Marrow is required for further workup of hematological abnormalities observed in peripheral blood, staging for bone marrow involvement by metastatic tumors, assessment of infectious disease processes including fever of unknown origin and in the evaluation of metabolic storage diseases. Aspirated marrow cells allow better appreciation of subtle differences in cell cytology whereas Trephine biopsy specimens are better for estimating the cellularity and architecture of bone marrow in the diagnosis of Aplastic anemia, Lymphomas, Granulomatous disease and Metastastic tumors.
