What is CEC Scan Temporo Mandibular Joint?
CECT TM Joint is a Contrast Enhanced Computerized Tomography (CECT) scan used to detect the abnormalities in the Temporomandibular (TM) joint between the skull’s temporal bones and the jaws.
In this diagnostic test, rotating beams of X-rays create 3-Dimensional cross-sectional clear pictures of the TM joint. A contrast media is injected to enhance the view and highlight the bones, joints, and underlying disorders.
Following symptoms may require CECT TM Joint:
Jaw pain
Clicking, chewing, and locking of jaw
Chronic pain in jaw, ear, or mouth
A CECT scan is used to detect jawbone fractures and assess jaw movement or jaw dislocation. It can also detect infection, injury, or inflammation of the joint structure. In addition, it can detect tumors or congenital disabilities of the TM joint.
