Bile salts are tested in case symptoms of jaundice appear. These include yellowing of the skin, under nails, whites of the eyes, pale stool and dark colored urine, combined with intense itching.

Interpreting Bile Salts results
Normal result of bile salt test is <10 micromolar/L. Higher result indicates positive in case of obstructive jaundice or liver disease with jaundice like condition.
