Overview
What is CECT Arm?
A CECT (Contrast-Enhanced Computed Tomography) Arm is a procedure that helps obtain detailed images of the arm. In this procedure, a contrast material is injected into the veins. Rotating beams of an X-Ray machine then create a three-dimensional image of the arm. This procedure is advised in case of fractures of the arms. It also helps detect any infection, injury, or inflammation of the surrounding muscles or tendons. This technique can determine the reason behind pain in the arms and diagnose osteoporosis, arthritis, or other abnormalities of the bones.
As a CECT scan exposes you to radiation, it is important to inform the doctor if you are pregnant. However, it is not a painful procedure and takes around 30 minutes.
Why is CECT Arm done?
- • To detect the fractures of the bones of the arm not visible on a simple X-ray • To detect the cause of any unexplained pain in the arm • To detect any infection, injury or inflammation of the soft tissues like the muscle, the tendons and ligaments of the arm • To diagnose any suspected infection, osteoporosis, deformities or abnormal growth of the bones and arthritis (inflammation of the joints)
