Understanding CD7
What is CD7?
CD 7 (Cluster of differentiation 7) is expressed on T cells(which protect the body from infection and help fight cancer) and natural killer cells. This test measures the level of CD7 in blood. It is widely used for the diagnosis of cancer and T cell lymphoma, a type of cancer. The lack of CD7 is suggestive of malignancy but is not conclusive. It could hint towards mycosis fungoides (which affects the skin) or Sezary syndrome. The symptoms of lymphoma are fever, night sweats, skin rash, and autoimmune disorders.
It is a safe test in which technicians collect a blood sample and analyse it. The test is positive if the conditions listed above are detected. Normal T cell count should be between 500 and 1,600 T cells/mm3.
