Overview
What is CT Angio - Lower Limb?
The CT (Computed Tomography) Angio - Lower Limb is an imaging technique that helps observe the blood vessels of the lower legs. For this, a contrast dye is injected into the veins, after which the scanner’s rotating X-Ray beams create detailed images of the legs that are viewed on a monitor. This procedure helps detect blocked or narrowed blood vessels in the lower legs. It also helps diagnose any inflammation, injury, or abnormal widening of the arteries in the legs. This procedure helps determine the cause of any unexplained pain in the legs.
As the contrast contains iodine, it is important to inform the doctor if you are allergic to iodine or have a kidney problem. The contrast dye can worsen the kidney problem.
Why is CT Angio - Lower Limb done?
- • To evaluate any physical trauma or injury to the lower limb • To evaluate any weak points in blood vessels or aneurysm • To check for blockages in blood vessels due to plaque deposition or blood clot formation • To detect the presence of any abnormal blood vessels • To diagnose the presence of any tumors (abnormal growth) and blood supply to tumors • To diagnose any congenital abnormalities of the circulatory system • To plan and to check the efficacy of treatments for blockages including stents and grafts
